Series One: Maplewood

$27.99

One of the most historic neighborhoods in all of Rochester, Maplewood is also one of the biggest. Historic estates, varied architectural styles (from Victorian to Queen Annes to pre-built homes bought out of a Sears-Roebuck catalog), and a strong sense of community make the neighborhood one of the most visually appealing, let alone the famous Rose Festival held every year at the Maplewood Rose Garden and park. The lower falls of the Genesee are also accessible from the park and provide excellent salmon fishing. The Maplewood neighborhood shirt is a heather cranberry to represent Maplewood Rose Garden Park and the Rose Festival held every year.

Another historical but not so well known landmark of Maplewood was the Rochester Driving Park. The park was an entertainment mecca for western New York and the surrounding states, drawing hundreds of thousands of spectators for various exhibitions like Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, The Ringling Brothers, bicycle races, and most importantly 'sulky' racing. Horse-cart racing was a feverishly popular sport in the late 1800s and the Rochester Driving Park was the most popular track to see the spectacle. The shirt's rearing horse and brown color represent this historical gem of Maplewood.

The Rochester subway system traveled west to east servicing as much of the city neighborhoods as possible: Residents and visitors of Maplewood would primarily jump on and off the Driving Park station for access.
